Not everyone can be the best. Not every brand can be number one.
Even so, that doesn’t mean you or your brand can’t have a great, compelling story worthy of media attention.
With that in mind, we’d like to introduce you to BoomBotix and their portable, bluetooth speakers.
We were turned onto Boombotix by former mobile-tech client turned future adult beverage client, Justin Walsh of the upcoming June Lake Brewing. Justin used a BoomBot for conference calls and we were so enamored with its versatility that Bill bought one for himself.
Our love for the Boombot goes well beyond it’s product design though, it’s really about how the company openly markets itself, pointing out it’s own shortcomings and advantages its competitors have.
On their blog and in numerous reviews we’ve seen in the media, the Boombot team will tell you they are not the best. Other speakers may sound better, have better battery life, etc.
However, Boombotix will tell you their gear is the best for it’s intended consumer. It’s very portable, light, loud and extremely durable. Bill’s has fallen off of car hoods, been spilt on at the beach, dangled from volleyball nets for marathon games and been kicked around concrete patios by wayward toddlers. Bill’s looks a little rough, but still sounds and works great.
If you go to their blog and search, you'll see more than a few reviews of products from other brands. Some positive, some lukewarm. What they all have in common is transparency about Boombotix' unique brand of audio systems and why they're right for their targeted consumer. They may not be right for your parents or your brother-in-law the audiophile, but that's not their concern. Boombotix' product line isn't right for everybody at the moment and that's a-ok with them (and us).
Not every brand can be the leader in all categories or in premium category. But, it's important to realize, starting with the initial design and launch of your brand, later extending to your marketing, where you can be a leader and what your media story is. Otherwise, there's no reason for anyone (consumers or journalists) to pay attention to you.
Boombot survives and thrives in media reviews and with consumers by being honest about their product's shortcomings and intended uses. They do not design a high-fidelity speaker designed for you to use during your concerto listening parties. Boombotix builds durable audio products for haphazard enjoyment and priced so that when it does eventually fail, get lost or crushed under a child’s bike, replacement is relatively painless. And in that category, the brand truly excels.
Disclaimer: It's important to note that while we often blog about clients and do work in the technology field, Boombotix is NOT a client and we have never approached them. We simply love their products and have had a great customer service experience with the brand when sending in emails, so we wanted to highlight their story and what we love about the company.
